2004
- Establishment of MIDAC HOLDINGS CO., LTD.
-
In December 2000, MIDAC became strongly aware of risk management when a business operator with whom we did business caused an illegal dumping problem.
Therefore, in order to diversify management risks, we decided to reorganize our organization into a holding company structure. Prior to this, in June 2004, our General Waste Transport Department was spun off to establish MIDAC LINER CO., LTD. Then, in July 2004, MIDAC HOLDINGS CO., LTD. was established as a pure holding company, and Katsuhiro Kumagai was appointed as the President & Representative Director. Then, MIDAC and MIDAC LINER were placed under MIDAC HOLDINGS, and Kazushi Yaitabashi and Masahiro Inoue were appointed as the President & Representative Directors of each company, respectively. Through these actions, we established a group management system with MIDAC HOLDINGS as the leading company.
2004
- Recovery support for areas affected by the Niigata Prefecture Chuetsu Earthquake and the Niigata Prefecture Chuetsu Offshore Earthquake
-
On October 23, 2004, a large earthquake with a maximum seismic intensity of 7 occurred, with its epicenter in the Chuetsu region of Niigata Prefecture.
MIDAC President Yaitabashi volunteered to have MIDAC clean up the disaster waste in Niigata City. With Niigata City's approval, then-MIDAC President Yaitabashi dispatched collection vehicles and employees to Ojiya City and Kawaguchi-machi (currently Nagaoka City) in Niigata Prefecture and worked on recovery support activities with the cooperation of volunteers from other businesses in the industry from Shizuoka Prefecture.
About three years later, on July 16, 2007, another major earthquake with a maximum seismic intensity of 6+ occurred in Niigata Prefecture (the Niigata Prefecture Chuetsu Offshore Earthquake). This time as well, MIDAC immediately went to the site of the disaster and worked to clean up disaster waste.
2004
- Entry into the agriculture business
-
In 2004, we began a new business, the agriculture business. This involved the production of liquid fertilizers made from recycled food scraps and the sale of pesticide-free vegetables produced by contracted farmers who used the liquid fertilizer. In May 2004, the Mogitate Market, a sales outlet for approximately 30 kinds of pesticide-free vegetables and processed products such as pickled plums, was opened near our head office. The following year, in March 2005, SUN MIDAC, CO., LTD. was established and the agriculture business was transferred to the new company.
The pesticide-free vegetables sold at Mogitate Market were well received by families with children suffering from atopic dermatitis. At a company information session for hiring new graduates, many of the students showed interest in the agriculture business, and the response was so positive that some of them even decided to join us to be involved in the agriculture business.
However, it was difficult to stabilize the liquid fertilizer's quality, and the business didn't perform well. As a result, we decided to withdraw from the agriculture business.
2005
- Relocation of the Tokyo Sales Office, and opening of the Nagoya Sales Office
-
In January 2005, the Tokyo Sales office, which had been established in Setagaya-ku in Tokyo, was relocated to a building in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, a five-minute walk from JR Kawasaki Station, in order to further strengthen sales in the Kanto region, taking advantage of MIDAC FUJINOMIYA's large incineration facility. At the time, Kawasaki was known as the "Ginza of industrial waste companies" (Ginza is a prominent shopping area in downtown Tokyo) because of the large number of industrial waste disposal companies gathered in that place, and the new location was more suitable as a sales base than the previous location because of its easy accessibility by vehicle.
In July 2005, the Nagoya Sales Office was opened in a building near Shirakawa Park, a five-minute walk from Sakae station on the Nagoya Municipal Subway, as a new sales base to expand our business area into the Tokai region.
2010
- Birth of the new MIDAC
-
The waste disposal industry was said to be less susceptible to economic downturns. However, as the yen appreciated following the collapse of Lehman Brothers, Japanese companies began expanding their overseas manufacturing bases. As a result of this trend, MIDAC's business performance declined to an unprecedented degree.
In order to recover from this downturn, making and implementing management decisions had to be accelerated. However, under the holding company system, there was a time lag in the speed at which communications were conveyed to subsidiaries. As such, we decided to merge MIDAC HOLDINGS, MIDAC and MIDAC LINER back into one company. On April 1, 2010, MIDAC was made the surviving company as a legal entity, and MIDAC HOLDINGS and MIDAC LINER were absorbed to form the new MIDAC with Kazushi Yaitabashi assuming the position of President & Representative Director.
2011
- Donating relief money to victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake
-
On March 11, 2011, a major earthquake occurred at a depth of about 24 km with an epicenter 130 km east-southeast of the Oshika Peninsula in Miyagi Prefecture, off the coast of Sanriku. This magnitude 9.0 earthquake was the largest earthquake ever recorded in Japan's history, and a maximum intensity of 7 was observed in Kurihara City in northern Miyagi Prefecture. The massive tsunami that accompanied the earthquake hit Japan's Pacific coastline, centered around Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima Prefectures, and also triggered the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, causing unprecedented damage that shocked and stunned Japan.
MIDAC collected donations to do our part, and we collected a total of ¥463,794 from executives and employees, which was then donated to the Chunichi Shimbun Social Enterprise Corporation on April 7, 2011.
